TRICONEX 2755
Product Description
The TRICONEX 2755 module is a key element in TRICONEX’s triple-modular redundant safety systems, widely used in industries with high-risk operations such as oil and gas, chemical processing, nuclear power, and refining. Its primary function is to provide reliable input and output interfaces for safety instrumented functions (SIFs), enabling the system to monitor critical process variables and execute safety actions (e.g., emergency shutdowns, process trips) when hazardous conditions are detected.
Leveraging TMR architecture, the module incorporates three independent channels that operate in parallel and vote on results, ensuring fault tolerance and eliminating single points of failure. This design allows the module to continue functioning even if one channel fails, meeting the most stringent safety integrity level (SIL) requirements—typically SIL 3, as defined by IEC 61508. For example, in an offshore oil platform’s emergency shutdown system, the TRICONEX 2755 module continuously monitors pressure, temperature, and flow rates in the production pipeline. If a dangerous overpressure condition is detected by two out of three channels (a 2oo3 voting logic), it triggers the shutdown valve within milliseconds, preventing catastrophic leaks or explosions.
The module supports multiple types of safety-related inputs, such as 4-20mA analog signals from pressure transmitters or temperature sensors, and digital signals from emergency stop buttons or flame detectors. It processes these signals with high precision and transmits them to the TMR controller for logic evaluation. On the output side, it can drive safety-critical actuators like solenoid valves or motor starters, using relay or solid-state outputs with built-in diagnostics to verify output integrity.
