DI651
ABB Advant OCS/AC500 Series DI651 High-Density Digital Input Module
(The DI651 is a key digital input component in ABB’s industrial control portfolio, tailored for integration with ABB Advant OCS distributed control systems (DCS) and AC500 programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The “DI” in the model name stands for “Digital Input,” and “651” denotes its high-channel density and industrial-grade performance. Its core function is to collect discrete digital signals from field devices (e.g., limit switches, proximity sensors, pressure switches) , isolate and condition these signals, and transmit standardized digital data to the host control system—enabling real-time status monitoring and logic control in process and machine automation.)
2. Product Description
The DI651 module is widely used in industrial scenarios requiring high-density digital signal acquisition, such as oil refinery process units, water treatment plants, and automotive assembly lines. In an oil refinery’s distillation column control system, for example, this module connects to 16 field digital devices: including level switch contacts (high/low for distillate tanks), valve position sensors (open/closed for control valves), and pump status switches (running/fault). It receives dry-contact or voltage-based discrete signals from these devices, processes them via built-in optical isolation (to eliminate ground loops and electromagnetic interference), and sends the signal status (ON/OFF) to the ABB Advant OCS DCS.
A standout feature of the DI651 is its robust noise immunity and environmental resilience. It incorporates 2500V DC optical isolation between input channels and the control system backplane, effectively blocking electromagnetic interference (EMI) from nearby high-voltage equipment (e.g., refinery pumps, heaters) or variable frequency drives (VFDs)—a common issue in oil and gas facilities that can cause false signal trigge
