HP E1406 Command Module
2. Product Description
The HP E1406 is a pivotal component in industrial and testing systems, renowned for its multifaceted capabilities and high – performance operation.
Fundamental Role in VXI Bus Systems
E1406
As a cornerstone of VXI bus systems, the E1406A (a common variant) plays a largely transparent yet crucial role. It serves as a bridge between different components, enabling seamless communication and coordination within the system. For example, it can translate SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) commands, making it easier for users to program and control various instruments in the system. This is highly beneficial in test and measurement scenarios where multiple instruments need to be precisely controlled.
Slot 0 and Resource Manager Functionality
The module offers VXI bus slot 0 and resource manager functions. When the system powers on, the resource manager in the E1406A undertakes a series of important tasks. It first identifies all the static and dynamically configured plug – in modules installed in the C – size mainframe. Then, it sets up the commander/servant hierarchy among one or more plug – in modules, dictating which modules control others. Additionally, it performs A24/A32 address mapping, ensuring that modules requiring additional addressing can receive it. It also allocates interrupt lines to manage communication between processor modules and interrupter modules, and finally, initiates system operation. Once the power – on sequence is complete, the system no longer relies on the resource manager for normal operation.
