Application Scenarios
A packaging machine performs thousands of short pick-and-place, indexing, and registration moves each shift. The motion profile may spend most of its cycle at low speed, but each index requires rapid acceleration, precise deceleration, and reliable holding torque. A drive selected only by continuous power rating may operate without thermal problems during steady speed, yet still trip during the brief current peaks that occur during acceleration. The maintenance issue is not simply motor power; it is whether the drive can provide the correct peak current for the duty cycle.
The DST1405 addresses this condition with 8.0 A RMS continuous output and 24.0 A RMS peak output—approximately three times the continuous rating. This peak capability supports rapid acceleration and deceleration without requiring a disproportionately large continuous-current drive. On a carton folder-gluer or indexing conveyor, the DST1405 can provide the short-duration current required for registration moves while remaining in a compact 62 mm wide frame.
A second common situation involves cabinet space and safety integration. A machine builder may need a high-dynamic servo axis but cannot justify a larger drive or a separate safety controller. The DST1405 accepts a 380–480 VAC three-phase supply and supports Safe Torque Off terminals. In an emergency-stop or guard-interlock application, this can allow the drive to remove torque safely without requiring an additional safety relay for every axis.
