Application Scenarios
In a packaging-line control cabinet running a ControlLogix PLC, remote I/O, several solenoid valves, and a touchscreen HMI, the original 10 A power supply was operating at the edge of its rating. Every time the line started and the solenoids shifted together, the inrush dip was enough to trigger a 24 V undervoltage fault and stop the machine. Replacing it with an 1606-XLS480F solved two problems at once. First, the 20 A capacity moved the steady-state load to roughly 40% of rating, eliminating the thermal stress. Second, the power supply’s built-in power boost delivered short-term overload current to cover solenoid inrush without the output sagging. The DC OK relay was wired to a spare input on the PLC, giving the operators a real-time power-supply health indication rather than discovering a failing unit only after the next unexplained stop. The cabinet actually gained space: the wider 240 W supply it replaced was swapped for a 105 mm-wide unit.
