This relay serves dual functions: synchro – check and voltage – check. The synchro – check function comes into play when connecting two separate networks or two electrically – interconnected network sections. It allows the circuit breaker to close only when the voltages on both sides of the breaker meet the preset conditions regarding magnitude, phase, and frequency difference. This ensures a smooth and safe connection between the power systems, preventing potential damage to equipment due to electrical mismatches.
The voltage – check function of the SPAU140C is utilized when connecting a disconnected bus or line to an energized section of a network. By verifying the voltage conditions, it helps in safeguarding the integrity of the network during such connection operations.
The SPAU140C features two identical operation stages. Each stage can be used to check the closing conditions of separate circuit breakers. Moreover, both the synchro – check and voltage – check functions are available for each operation stage, providing flexibility in its application scenarios. It also operates in two different modes: continuous. Additionally, it has a continuous auto – diagnostic self – supervision feature for both its relay hardware and software, which helps in ensuring reliable performance and early detection of any potential malfunctions.
